Thinking about it logically, I think the human mind (or my inferior equivalent) subconsciously tries to make sense of stuff where possible. That could be what my dreams are doing. Perhaps putting songs in there that are somehow relevant to my actual life.
However, I reckon there's an element of my conscious thinking (what there is of it) in linking those songs to events after I wake. Kind of like the way a horoscope can be related to loads of different people at the same time. You've just gotta think about it.
Thus, as with all my history essay type conclusions, I haven't arrived at a definite answer.
C+ (Could do better)
P.S. If any particular gold comes up, I'll stick it on here. Other than that, I'm outta here...

Yankee Doodle
In particular the line; "Put a feather in his cap and called it macaroni"
There's some interesting history behind this song.
There's some interesting history behind this song.
"'Yankee Doodle' is a well-known British song the origin of which dates back to the Seven Years War. It has been widely adopted in the United States and is often sung patriotically today. It is the state anthem of Connecticut."

More Or Less
A song that has bits that sound strangely like 'The Darkness', not so much in style but just a melody or two. Not that I wish to besmirch their name, but I wouldn't be too surprised if they stole stuff off of 'Screaming Trees'...

Arctic Monkeys. I don't even really like the Arctic Monkeys, nor do I know how this song goes, apart from the start. But there it was/still is, playing repetitively in my head.
It came in combination with a dream about fighting a guerilla war against robots with a completely useless idiot from school and a character from 'Band of Brothers' who then turned into a character from 'Hornblower'. Weird, weird, weird...

Revelations/Japanese Boy
So sometimes I wake up with music in my head that I don't recognise. Maybe it's something I heard, maybe it's my brain trying to be creative without stupid thinking getting in the way.
But I think this is the first time my brain's mixed together two songs like this. Truly strange. Audioslave and Aneka, you don't know what you're missing.

"There's blood in my mouth, cos I've been biting my tongue all week..." was the line in my head this morning.
It's a good song, perhaps Rilo Kiley's finest. I shall recharge the iPod so I can hear it today.

Sometimes
Overslept somewhat today and awoke with the gentle guitar intro of Pearl Jam's "Sometimes" in my head. And it was a live version if that means anything.
